The cabinet is rallying behind President Alvaro Uribe in an effort to deflect attention away from the parapolitical scandal that is affecting his government by accusing the opposition of links to guerrilla groups. The interior minister, Carlos Holguín, said that the supreme court should conduct a parallel investigation into the guerrilla influence on elections, particularly in the southern departments of Caquetá and Putumayo as well as Tolima, west of Bogotá.
